Cut Out a Subject to Layer It in Front of Text

Put the person or product from a photo on its own layer so a big title can sit between them.

This is the depth effect you see on magazine covers: the title is behind the person, not on top of them. Cut out subject sets it up in a couple of clicks.

Cut out a subject

  1. Click the photo on the canvas.

  2. Click the sparkle button in its toolbar to open the Ask Krumzi menu.

  3. Pick Cut out subject.

Krumzi puts the person, product or animal on its own layer in front of the photo, lined up exactly, and groups it with the photo so they move together.

Slide the title between them

  1. Add or select your headline.

  2. Move it above the photo but below the cutout. Use Cmd/Ctrl + ] and [, or drag it in Layers in the left rail.

  3. Make the title big enough that part of it hides behind the subject.

What to expect

  • The cutout matches the photo's crop and color grade.

  • If the photo has faded edges, the cutout fades only where the subject meets them, so hair crossing a title never turns see-through.

  • Running it again on an unchanged photo costs nothing.

  • It uses credits like other AI actions, and you aren't charged if it fails.

Or just ask

  • "Put the singer in front of the title."

  • "Cut out the product and put the headline behind it."

Good to know

  • Clear, well-lit photos with a distinct subject give the cleanest edge.

  • For a plain background removal with no layering, use Remove background from the same menu.
