Upload Custom Videos

Your own footage adds something stock never can. Upload a product demo, a talking-head clip, or a location shot and use it alongside text, shapes, stock media, and every other element in the video editor.

Uploading a clip

1. Open the Uploads panel from the side navigation.

2. Drop your file onto the drop zone or click to choose it. You can drop several files at once.

3. Wait for the upload bar to finish. A thumbnail appears in your uploads.

4. Click the thumbnail to add the clip to the canvas and the timeline.

Uploaded files are stored in your library, so the next project can reuse them without uploading again.

Supported files

MP4, WebM, MOV, and MKV, up to 100 MB per file. MP4 with H.264 encoding is the safest choice for playback and rendering. If a large file uploads slowly, compress it first or trim it in your camera app before uploading.

Positioning and layering

Drag the clip to move it, drag the corner handles to resize it, and use bring forward / send backward (Cmd/Ctrl + ] and [) to place it above or below other elements. To use footage as a full-frame background, stretch it to cover the canvas and send it to the back.

Timing on the timeline

The clip shows up as a bar on the timeline. Drag it to change when it starts. Drag its trim handles to change when it appears and disappears in your video.

Cutting sections out

To remove the boring parts of a clip, select it and click Trim Video in the side panel. In the trim window you can play the clip, switch on Split mode and click the clip's timeline to slice it into sections, remove the sections you don't want, restore ones you cut by mistake, and merge neighbours back together. Save when you're done. The kept sections play back to back as one clip, so your video jumps straight from good moment to good moment.

Speed and volume

With the clip selected, the side panel shows a Volume slider and Playback Speed buttons (1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x). Mute the clip if you're adding music, or speed it up to tighten a slow demo.

Effects

Video elements take the same treatment as images: opacity, rotation, shadow, blur, glass, image filters, blend modes, and masks such as circle, pill, or arch. A rounded-corner clip on a gradient background is a quick way to make screen recordings look designed.

Captions from your footage

If the clip has speech, open the Captions panel and generate captions from it. Two credits per transcription. See "Add Captions and Subtitles".

Tips

• Shoot at the orientation you'll export. Vertical footage for Reels and TikTok, horizontal for YouTube.

• Trim hard. Social viewers give you a second or two. Cut to the moment that matters.

• Upload at the resolution you plan to export at or higher. Upscaled footage looks soft.
