Layer styles are what make a headline look like it came off a poster. You can stack them on text, shapes and images, and everything stays editable.

Try a title style

  1. Select a text element.

  2. Click More β†’ All options (or right-click β†’ All options) to open the Design panel, then open Effects.

  3. Pick a style from the Title styles row: Sticker, Outline, Double outline, 3D block, Retro 3D, Long shadow, Neon, Chrome, Inflated, Grunge or Glow outline.

The style sets up the strokes, shadows and colors for you. Change any of them afterwards and the rest stays put.

Build your own look

In the same Effects section you can stack these on text, shapes and images:

  • Stroke. Add up to four outlines. Each one can sit outside, centered or inside the edge. Turn on Outline only to hollow out the fill.

  • Custom shadow. Up to three shadows, each with its own color, opacity, X, Y, blur and spread.

  • Outer glow, inner shadow and inner glow.

  • 3D. Set the depth, angle and colors. Add a fade and it becomes a long shadow.

  • Bevel for a raised, chiseled edge.

  • Rough edges for a worn, gritty outline.

  • Dashed and dotted borders on images and shapes.

What to expect

  • Outlines no longer show lines inside the letters, even on tight fonts.

  • Effects follow the real shape of the letters, not a box around them.

  • What you see on the canvas is what you export.

Or just ask

  • "Give the headline a chrome look with a thin black outline."

  • "Add a retro 3D effect to the title in orange and purple."

  • "Put a double outline on 'GRAND OPENING' and a long shadow."

  • "Make the price badge a neon glow."

Good to know

  • Glass shapes ignore blur and grain.

  • Two or three effects usually look better than six. Start with one and add from there.
