The Safe Zone Checker is at krumzi.com/tools/safe-zone-checker, with its own pages for Instagram Reels and TikTok. Drop in a vertical design or video and see exactly what each app's buttons, caption and top bar cover. It's free, there's no signup, and your file never leaves your browser.
Check your design
Pick the app. Reels, TikTok, Shorts or Stories.
Pick the post type. Organic post or Ad. Ads keep more room clear at the bottom for the Sponsored label and the button.
Add your file. Click Upload design or video, or drop a file on the phone. Images and videos both work. A video plays under the overlay, with play, pause and a scrubber so you can check any moment.
Look for red. Red areas are covered by the app. The dashed outline is the safe area: keep text, faces and logos inside it.
What you can turn on and off
App buttons and text: a drawing of the app's screen on top of your post.
Covered areas: everything the app covers, in red.
Safe area: the dashed outline. It steps in around the side buttons, so it's an L shape on Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
Profile grid crop (Reels and TikTok): the 3:4 middle of your cover that shows on your profile.
Each part of the app on its own: tap a chip under App elements to hide the status bar, top bar, side buttons, caption, progress bar or reply bar.
The panel on the right shows the safe area's size, how many pixels to keep clear at each edge, and what the numbers are based on, with links to the sources.
Download
Download preview: your design, or the current video frame, under the overlay as a 1080 Γ 1920 PNG.
Download template: the overlay alone on a transparent 1080 Γ 1920 PNG. Put it on top of your project in CapCut, Canva or Premiere Pro as a guide, then delete it before you export.
Both downloads include only the layers you have on.
Where the numbers come from
Meta, TikTok and Google only publish safe zones for ads, so the Ad numbers follow their guides: Meta's Ads Guide for Reels and Stories, TikTok's In-Feed ad template, and Google's vertical video guidance for Shorts. For organic posts, we measured each app's current screen in its own product images: Instagram's August 2025 Reels screen, TikTok's July 2025 For You screen and YouTube's June 2026 Shorts screen. The numbers were last checked in November 2026.
Good to know
Files that aren't 9:16 show with bars around them, the way the apps show them. Use the 9:16 aspect ratio calculator to resize first.
Most phones are a little taller than 9:16, so the apps trim a few pixels off the sides. That's why the safe area keeps a margin on the left and right.
Some browsers can't play every video format. If a MOV won't open, try an MP4, or upload a still frame as an image.
